1. The award ceremony for the “Presidential Agriculture Awards 2006” took place. President Shui-bian Chen personally conferred the awards to the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center’s mungbean research team, Taiwan's transgenic animal and cloning research team, and Dr. Su Hong-zi, professor emeritus of National Taiwan University.
2. The ceremony of the "Shen-Nong Awards 2006" took place. Premier Tseng-chang Su conferred the awards to outstanding farmers and farm spouses, model farmers and farm spouses, and others who have made contributions in irrigation and soil and water conservation.
3. The Council of Agriculture and Ministry of Economic Affairs jointly announced that irrigation in part of Hsinchu County would be suspended. Compensation for the farmers due to the irrigation suspension would be equivalent to the following of the first rice crop in 2004.
4. The stipulation that a wrecked fisherman could receive an aid of NT$200,000, as stated in the guidelines for rescuing wrecked fisherman and fishing vessels, was integrated into the revised regulations for arranging maritime insurance.
5. The measures for strengthening avian influenza prevention and sanitary management in pig and poultry farms were promulgated.
6. The revised operation guidance for scholarship application for farmers’ and fishermen’s children was announced. In the revised guidance, the applicant’s income qualification will be estimated by the combined income of the applicant and his/her spouse.
7. The revised measures for assisting and managing recreational agriculture were announced. The measures loosen the conditions for setting up leisure farms, and simplify the application procedure.
8. "The quarantine requirements for importing fresh fruits that are hosts of peach fruit moth ( Carposina niponensis) from South Korea" and "the quarantine requirements for importing fresh fruits that are hosts of peach fruit moth from Japan" took effective.
9. Various activities of the Arbor Month 2006 were organized.
