III. E-business for Agricultural Production and Marketing

  1. To digitalize the information on traceability systems, the COA has established a service platform to provide information on agri-products that are certified by the nine institutions accredited for issuing certified labels, and controlled the number of certified labels printed. At present, the certified packages thus marketed weekly total around 100,000. During the year, 66 workshops were conducted to teach the agri-producers on how to best work with the traceability systems.
  2. As requested by the agricultural production enterprises, the COA has developed a computer-based agricultural production management system. The system is to integrate the databases on personnel, salaries, finance, accounting, production, marketing, purchases, etc. generated by various departments. It facilitates the best use of all available resources, improves operational efficiency, assists decision-making, and improves the benefit-cost ratio. The electronic ordering system has also been installed in produce distribution centers of various farmers’ associations to facilitate the speedy and correct distribution of fresh products.
  3. To improve the management system for adding value to the seed and seedling industry, the COA has established an information management system for the production and marketing of seeds and seedlings. At present, the system provides information on incident prices and price analyses of rape, sesbania, blue soybeans, feed corn, sorghum, and edible corn. Moreover, wireless sensor network and video image monitoring systems are employed for greenhouse production of orchids. This saves over 50 percent of work-hours.
  4. To fast distribute information on the proper use of agro-pesticides, the information on agro-pesticides and plant protection is placed online for easy reference. Furthermore, information on the supply and certification of disease-free animals arre placed online to help research institutes to place orders online for experimental animals.
