Production technology is accomplished; the adlay-made vegetarian meat has created and will keep you healthy

2006-04-18
The Council of Agriculture indicates that in recent years the partaking of health food is getting trendy, and for the reason to enhance the added value of agricultural products to let farmers gain more incomes from them, the Council has been working on to research health foods with adlay and some accomplishments are achieved. Among them, the adlay-made vegetarian meat is endowed with potential for development, which should provide a new health product for our people.

As noted by the Council, it has begun an industrial and academic cooperative project on “research and industrialized production of adlay health foods” since 2003, and primary results are accomplished in early 2005. The technology for producing healthy foods is using local adlay as ingredient with isolated soy protein and crataegus pinnatifida bge, which has succeeded and been transferred to the originally working plants. After joint research from the academic and plant for 6 months, several kinds of products have been developed.  The brand name “Jhen-Lei-Jin” healthy vegetarian meat made of adlay is most highly accepted by the market, and it is going to be in mass production in the near future. Product of such is made with adlay, crataegus pinnatifida bge, and soy protein as its ingredients, and it is done with compressing technology, given with several tastes. Since there are already academic and research reports and journals done regarding the product made of adlay, isolated soy protein, and crataegus pinnatifida bge using its the effect of functions adjusting blood lipid, therefore, before products are marketed in the future as health food, registration will be applied for it in line with the regulation of the Department of Health.

The Council also points out that the transfer of such technology is a successful case of win-win scenario for both industry and agriculture. Adlay is a kind of herb that can be grown throughout the year, and there has been such plantation for years. Presently, there are about 300 hectares of land in Changhwa County, Nantou County, and Taichung County that is found growing adlay. With initial estimation, when such product begins massive production, a hundred tons of adlay would be required every year. By then, the acreage of land growing adlay can be expended to 30 hectares, and it would largely increase the income of farmers. As a result, it would also help our countrymen to enjoy healthy and delicious adaly foods in their daily life.
