2006-08-17

Part of a program to expand the market for Taiwan agricultural products in Japan, the Council of Agricultural entered into cooperation with Japan IKEEI to set up an agricultural products store at Shibuya in Tokyo. The aim was to display and sell Taiwan agricultural products. Mr. Lee, Jian-Chuan, deputy minister of COA accompanied by Mr. Hsu, Shih-kai, Taiwan Representative to Japan were special guests during the opening ceremony on July 25th.

According to COA, the establishment of this products store was another step taken to implement the “International Agricultural Marketing enhancement Project.” The store was the result of two years of efforts and is located near the Keio Line of the Tobitakyu Station. It has a total area of 105 square meters and sells all kinds of Taiwan farm products.

Japan is the largest importer of Taiwan agricultural products. Last year, Taiwan’s export value to that country totaled US$1.3 billion, around 36% of Taiwan’s total exports of agricultural products. The main products included bananas, pineapple, green soybeans, mango, oncidium, tea leaves, tuna fish and eel fish and etc., IKEEI, a marketing association, was established in Japan 59 years ago and now has more than 50 retail sales stores throughout Japan. COA believes that IKEEI’s good management and marketing experiences will certainly help promote Taiwan agricultural products in Japan.

The booths within the Taiwan Agricultural Products Store will also enable Japanese consumers taste the delights of Taiwanese cuisine. The COA hopes that the Store could become a window for Japanese traders to order Taiwan agricultural products and obtain its marketing information. In the future, various activities will be organized to promote Taiwan agricultural products continuously.
