1. The COA convened an advisory conference on agricultural policy adjustments since Taiwan's accession to WTO.
2. Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries announced on Dec. 1, 2004 that Tainung No. 2 variety of papayas grown in Taiwan could be exported to Japan after performing vapor heat treatment on fruit fly.
3. Upon detecting codling moths on apples imported from the U.S., the COA notified the US authorities that Taiwan would temporarily suspend the importation of US apples from Dec. 21, 2004.
4. After Typhoon Nanmadol struck Taiwan, the COA declared Tainan City eligible for agricultural natural disaster cash relief and low-interest loans. In addition, adzuki bean growers in Pingtung County were declared eligible for relief and low-interest loans, and the COA provided special subsidies for ponkan-growers in Chiayi County, Yunlin County, and Taichung City.
