Trends in the Domestic Agricultural Situation
Agricultural production: The total value of agricultural production in 2013 was roughly NT$475.9 billion, a decline of 0.4% compared to 2012. Farm products accounted for 47.5% of the value of agricultural production, an increase from the previous year, while animal husbandry products accounted for 31.3%, fisheries products for 21.1%, and forestry products for only 0.1%.
Trade in agro-products: In 2013 the value of imports of agro-products was US$14.78 billion, a slight increase of 0.8% compared to 2012. The main imports were grain and processed grain products, oilseeds and oilseed powder, and lumber and processed lumber products. The value of exports of agro-products was US$5.08 billion, a decrease of 0.2% versus 2012. The main exports were fish and processed fisheries products, and leather or down manufactured goods.
Prices of agro-products: In 2013 the wholesale price index for all farms, forestry, fisheries, and animal husbandry products fell 5.5% compared to 2012. The largest price falls were seen in fish, special-use crops, miscellaneous crops, fruit, and grains. Farm products fell in price by 6.3%, forestry products rose by 8%, fisheries products fell by 10%, and animal husbandry products rose by 2.5%.
